Shopping.

Sprout, you're an expensive little bean!
Not that we're surprised by that, but it's still pretty amazing.
Today we finished all of our 0-3 month clothing shopping. I had a checklist with quantities on a clipboard and everything. We got this really cute cable knit sweater one piece that I'm in love with. It's a 6 month old size, which is nice because when Sprout is 6 months old it will be a little chilly here.
Baby clothes shopping aggravates me. Does that sound bad? I'm not a fan of kitsch, and that seems to be what people love to buy and sell for little humans.

Things I hate:
Disney (or other popular cartoon characters)
Flannel
Fluffy fleece blankets. They'll just be one giant ball of lint in my dryer.
Phrases. "Mommy's Rock Star," "Just like Daddy," and things like "Little Stinker" are so yuck to me.
Faces on butts of clothing. You know? Like the ass of a onesie being a chimpanzee head? It's weird.
Glitter
Anything spelled incorrectly. K in place of C, crap like that.
That "crooked letter" writing in kid's rooms.

Things that I really love:
Elephants and giraffes
Organic cotton
Stripes
Robots
Dinosaurs
Thick knitted blankets
Muslin swaddling cloths
Navy Blue
Knot hats
Ethnic-inspired nursery decor
Neutral walls (so it's easier to change the look of the space)
Monograms

So far we've decided on khaki walls (the same paint we have in our bedroom, it's really soothing), wood floors, and dark wood furniture. In lieu of a changing table, we've chosen to keep the existing dresser in that room, as it's currently a guest room, and add knobs to the drawers and a changing tray/pad on top. It's from the Malm line at Ikea, so it's simple enough to match whatever crib we get. I want blue and green accents with a little bit of orange. I have the cutest Serena and Lily crib sheets that are perfect. The color is even called 'Sprout'! We're trading out the ugly white ceiling fan for a dark on with better lights and a dimmer. I want to get rid of the blinds and put up sheers and a good drape with a valance.  I want a nice area rug, side table, floor lamp, small wall-mounted book case and shelves, a closet organizer, and we're getting my mother's wooden rocking chair. I thought long and hard about the rocker/glider thing and looked at lots of great chairs. In the end, I decided that I wanted the chair that my mother rocked me and all of my siblings in. I also really like the idea of there being an heirloom piece in his room.
Oh, and instead of one of those mobiles mounted to the side of the crib, I want one that hangs from the ceiling.
This sounds like a lot, but it's a small space and it won't be too hard to accomplish. I'm excited! It's coming together, bit by bit. We still have plenty of time.
Also: We have a name.
